Insurance scheme – inclusions and requirements

NSWRL have extended the following Community Rugby League insurance to Heritage Rugby League (HRL) and its affiliated member clubs:

  • Personal injury and accident to all players registered to HRL clubs
  • Management and Public Liability for Heritage Rugby League affiliate clubs to host matches in NSW and ACT.
    • All participants (players and volunteers) are required to register in their respective club’s HRL portal on MySideline.
  • Clubs on application can apply to play interstate but not as the host body.

Please note:

  • Clubs registering non-Australian citizens will need to take out and show proof of specific cover.
  • This is based on two annual pre and post season participation windows agreed with NSWRL, with the majority of games played in a Spring window mid-September to end of November. On application, other games may be played in a Summer Window from February to mid-March.
  • This covers a calendar year e.g. for HRL season 2025, it covers from February to November 2025.
  • Full payment must be made for a season before a club plays any games.

Injury – lodging a claim

If a player sustains an injury, and an HRL club, player, and/or a parent/guardian wishes to lodge a claim for insurance cover for the injury, then the claim should be lodged through Make a claim. Howden Insurance requires that a claim be lodged within 30 days of the injury being sustained (please see the claim form).

To navigate through to the insurance claim form, this can be done through several steps:

  1. Go to NSWRL website, and on LHS, click on Club Hub
  2. Click on Insurance
  3. Click on 2025 Club Insurance Charges
  4. Click on Howden Insurance Portal link
  5. Click on Option 1 Make a claim (same link as at the top)

Option 2 allows the player or parent/guardian to download a PDF form.
