Heritage Rugby League NSW (HRL) is a not-for-profit sporting association, incorporated through NSW Fair Trading.
- It formed in 2022 and has affiliated to the New South Wales Rugby League (NSWRL).
- It aims to work in alignment not only with NSWRL, but also with other State Leagues, the National Rugby League, Asia Pacific Rugby League and the International Rugby League.
- The aim behind its creation were to
- promote and support games, events and tournaments.
- create new and encouraging pathways into the sport for people from all ethnicities.
- create clear, streamlined processes for heritage, harmony and multicultural teams to compete within NSW and Australia.
- provide formal oversight, and a best practice sustainable governance framework.
Charter – from HRL Operations Manual
The key objectives are to:
- Increase multicultural Rugby League participation in NSW, encouraging harmony and stronger community understanding across Cultural and Linguistically Diverse groups.
- Games and fixtures under Heritage RL NSW are to be primarily aimed at development with a focus on cultural celebration, acknowledgement of heritage.
- Promote and foster positive relationships between Heritage RL NSW affiliated clubs and their respective home nations, particularly emerging Rugby League nations, encouraging support of Rugby League development programs abroad.
Background
- Heritage clubs have played in harmony, heritage and international RL matches and tournaments in NSW and Australia for 20 years, in both senior and junior age groups.
- Past major events include Harmony Cup, Redfern Harmony Nines, Cabramatta Nines and Sydney Nines.
